Skincare and fillers: everything you need to know to achieve the perfect synergy

Skincare and Fillers:

Everything You Need to Know to Achieve the Perfect Synergy

“Nature gives us the face we have before 30; after that, we get the face we deserve.” This quote by Coco Chanel highlights the importance of skincare routines. As a specialist in aesthetic and reconstructive medicine, I consider this topic essential. In Italy, only 1 in 4 doctors provides proper dermocosmetic recommendations to patients undergoing aesthetic procedures.

In my opinion, this is a major mistake!

The synergy between skincare and aesthetic treatments is a powerful tool. It allows us to optimally prepare the skin before procedures, soothe and care for it immediately afterward (minimizing unwanted side effects), and, most importantly, enhance and prolong the results of medical-aesthetic treatments over time.

In the past, we believed that skin aging depended solely on genetics. Today, however, we know that environmental factors—such as sun exposure, diet, sleep, lifestyle, and oxidative stress—account for approximately 40% of this process.

We also have a biological marker: the length of our telomeres (our chromosomal “code”), which helps determine whether our biological age matches our chronological age. The shorter the telomeres, the more “aged” our cells are. This is directly influenced by the external factors mentioned above, and skincare plays a key role in this process.

Any specialist who is informed and up to date with the latest research will ensure they recommend personalized dermocosmetic skincare products for each patient. The initial consultation is essential—it’s the moment when a true journey toward beauty and proper skin care is planned, with injectable treatments being just one step in that process.

Skincare begins with cleansing and continues with a tailored routine based on age, lifestyle, skin type, and specific concerns (such as hydration levels, stress, hyperpigmentation, etc.). Above all, it should work hand in hand with the chosen medical-aesthetic treatment, supported by targeted recommendations.

In the case of hyaluronic acid fillers, Teoxane offers a range of products formulated with the same ingredients as the fillers themselves. These help manage potential side effects (such as bruising and swelling) and protect the skin during a very delicate phase. At the same time, they stimulate and regenerate the skin, leading to more satisfying and longer-lasting results.

All of this should be adjusted during follow-up appointments because, I must emphasize, an effective treatment plan should always be developed in collaboration with your physician. This is undoubtedly the best strategy to ensure healthy, fresh, and radiant skin over time—at any age.
